Back4Good®

80% of the adult population suffer from back pain at some time in their life. 1 in 5 of these people live with chronic back pain. The good news is that gentle, effective exercise, can often help with the prevention and management of low back pain. Pilates is well renowned for being an effective way to manage back pain. Body Control Pilates has launched a new initiative which takes this to another level, with Back4Good®.

What is the Back4Good® Programme?

The Back4Good® Programme is a unique set of exercises designed to target many of the complex issues underlying causes of low back pain. The aim is to help people self-manage their low back pain and stay active. The exercises are designed to help control your movements and improve posture, increasing both the strength and flexibility of your back.

Referral to the Back4Good® Programme

At present this is on a 1:1 basis but we may hold sessions in very small groups at a later stage. You may be referred by your medical practitioner. We will assess your movement and create a personally tailored exercise plan. You will be given ‘homework’ in the form of a few well chosen exercises to be practised in between sessions. We will go over the exercises carefully, to make sure you understand the exercise objectives and make sure you feel confident about performing them on your own.

As every little bit helps, we will have a ‘Get Active’ programme with advice for a more active lifestyle with achievable goals.

Testimonial from Jessica Carter

My name is Jessica Carter, I have been attending twice weekly Body Control Pilates sessions with Maxine Shenton at her studio in Poulner, for just over a year. The studio is amazing, light, airy, very well equipped and if you need a little breather between exercises, it has the most wonderful view of the New Forest. The benefits of this type of exercise are absolutely amazing, improved deportment, increased flexibility and most importantly, I am free from many years of nagging back pain which in the past was only aggravated by harsh sessions at the gym. Anyone who wants to improve the appearance of their body, long toned muscles, strong toned abs which is the core strength to support the back, this is certainly the way to go, it has changed my life. There was also an added benefit with these stretching and strengthening exercises the spine lengthens out as it was in younger years, my height has increased by an inch plus. People say as we get older we shrink, well not me?
